Anicka Yi

Within Turbine Hall, the enormous post-industrial area at the center of Tate Modern London, artist Anicka Yi presents a vision of a future environment (video below).

Yi's installation brings back the presence of machines. Her airborne robots, dubbed aerobes, are modeled after fungi and marine life. It challenges people to rethink artificial intelligence and consider novel ways that machines might live in the world.

Yi is renowned for her experimental work that investigates the blending of biology and technology. She challenges visitors to consider developing their understanding of themselves as humans and the ecosystems we live in by erasing distinctions between plants, animals, microorganisms, and technologies.

Here's a video I took of the aerobes. Yi's combination of technology and biology is truly amazing.
