Anicka Yi

Image
Within Turbine Hall, the enormous post-industrial area at the center of Tate Modern London, artist Anicka Yi presents a vision of a future environment (video below).  Yi's installation brings back the presence of machines. Her airborne robots, dubbed aerobes, are modeled after fungi and marine life. It challenges people to rethink artificial intelligence and consider novel ways that machines might live in the world.  Yi is renowned for her experimental work that investigates the blending of biology and technology. She challenges visitors to consider developing their understanding of themselves as humans and the ecosystems we live in by erasing distinctions between plants, animals, microorganisms, and technologies. Here's a video I took of the aerobes. Yi's combination of technology and biology is truly amazing.

Sol LeWitt Upside Down by Hague Yang

Image
Hague Yang frequently creates art by repurposing common household materials in unique ways. Over 500 Venetian blinds were used to create this floating sculpture. Yang's selection emphasizes the distinctive sculptural potential of these commonplace window coverings. They can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional, translucent or opaque, compressed or extended. This 2015 sculpture makes reference to Sol LeWitt (1928-2007), a conceptual art pioneer who produced work by adhering to self-imposed principles. Structure with Three Towers, a floor-based sculpture by Yang from 1986, is reinterpreted. Venetian blinds are substituted for the open-sided cubes in LeWitt's sculpture, which is divided into three sections and suspended upside-down from the ceiling after being magnified 23 times total (pictures below).  Yang challenges standards of authorship and originality by drawing comparisons between her work and that of a well-known artist from a previous generation. Museums

Image
People can explore collections in museums for ideas, knowledge, and enjoyment. They are institutions that gather, preserve, and make available specimens and artifacts that they maintain in trust for societies.  People in art museums can learn from other people, professional artists, volunteers, museum educators, and other experts. They learn how to use museums with confidence and understanding, and they can learn about the various jobs that museums offer. When it comes to educating future generations, museums and other cultural institutions will always be necessary.  In addition to developing a respect for cultural institutions, visitors to art museums are more inclined to use the museums as a resource for lifelong learning in the arts. Museums not only help to bring history to life, but they also provide a unique window into the past, the present, and the future.

Creativity

Image
The capacity to come up with fresh, creative connections and solutions to issues is what is meant by creativity. Fostering resilience, igniting joy, and offering chances for self-actualization are all aspects of what drives us as people.  A creative endeavor can be vast and motivating, like creating beautiful artwork or developing a cutting-edge business. However, a thought need not be original or transform the world to qualify as creative. Everyday acts of creativity and original solutions are necessary for survival; therefore, creativity is a quality that practically everyone possesses.  The pictures below, which I captured at London's Tate Modern museum, is an illustration of creativity. I recall that bookshelves with various and vibrant prints spanned the entire area. Though the concept is simple, it is really unique and creative.

Art Jackets

Image
I took this picture on my first visit to Emmanuel Gallery. I loved the jacket's artwork. "Art jackets" are quite distinctive and cool in my opinion. An artist's creation or an artistic expression can be seen in clothing.  The production of clothing might be done for aesthetic reasons, political statements, or messages. Few companies that rely on consumers who recognize the expressive and communicative abilities of apparel.  Our clothing should be works of art, and how we dress ourselves should be a creative and emotional statement. When I see fashion as art I get inspired to clothe myself in items of clothing that I value as works of art. I get motivated to display my own creativity as it has been impacted by the creativity of others.

Cities

Image
I saw this post on Instagram and I thought it was cool and I think we all can relate to it. Inspiration can come from anywhere. For example, cities can inspire you. What captured my attention was the first sentence on the post: "The city is a walking mood board". Seeing how people dress, street art, buildings, etc. Anything around you can inspire you if you look closely.  Cities are real, rich, and engaging. They are multi-sensory experiences rather than just auditory and visual. The majority of the inspiration we find on our screens pales in comparison to this type of inspiration from the actual world.
